Main Sewer Line Cleaning & Root Removal

There is a reason the name on the truck is Root'r. In Raytown, Independence and the older neighborhoods of Kansas City, mature silver maples, elms and sycamores sit directly over clay-tile and cast-iron sewer laterals, and their roots find every joint and hairline crack. A main line full of root hair does not fail politely — it backs up into the lowest fixture in the house, usually a basement floor drain or a downstairs tub, usually on a weekend.

We clear main lines with sectional and drum machines and a full set of cutting heads, working the line all the way to the city main or septic connection rather than just punching a hole through the blockage and calling it open. Punching a hole buys you a few weeks. Cutting the line back to full pipe diameter buys you years. When the line is open, we run water through it to confirm full flow before we pack up.

Roots are not the only thing that closes a main. Grease that cooled and hardened downstream, decades of soap and paper buildup, a collapsed section of Orangeburg, a belly holding standing water, or a broken joint that has let the pipe fill with dirt will all produce the same symptom at your floor drain. When cleaning the drain is not enough, we use an array of tools to pinpoint and locate the trouble or broken area in the line, so any digging is aimed at one spot instead of the whole yard.
